By PHIL SOENCKSEN The Campus Kitchen at ����Vlog�ƽ��, a student-run organization that reclaims food to feed the needy in the Kent area, has had to swiftly switch gears from operating a hot food kitchen to an expanded food pantry. Normally, the Campus Kitchen would have about 20 visitors during its weekly pantry distributions. Members of ����Vlog�ƽ��’s Design Innovation Initiative are forging creative collaborations with local and regional organizations and funders as they work toward the production of personal protective equipment (PPE) for first responders battling the COVID-19 pandemic. A team of ����Vlog�ƽ�� students was recently honored for its efforts to create a sustainable black dye alternative.  The BioBlack team of Janda Van Dyk, Jordan Smith, Kirsten Thieman and Lizeth Ramirez received the Outstanding Science Award from the Biodesign Challenge Summit 2020.  The fashion industry currently uses synthetic dye to create the color black, so the team decided to work with bacteria to create a more eco-friendly replacement. CPM Researchers Part of KSU Team Awarded Patent ����Vlog�ƽ�� College of Podiatric Medicine (CPM) faculty members Jill Kawalec, Ph.D. and Larry Osher, DPM, along with Sr. Associate Dean Vince Hetherington, DPM have been awarded a patent for the innovative technology used in their thermochromic liquid crystal research.
